Corie and Paul Bratter are newlyweds living in a tiny, fifth-floor walkup apartment in New York City. Paul is a straight-laced attorney; Corie is a more spontaneous free spirit. The couple contend with lack of heat, a skylight with a gaping hole, several long flights of stairs, an oddball neighbor, and Corie's well-meaning mother as they adjust to married life in the big city. Approximate running time: 2:35 including intermissions.
Director's Notes
BAREFOOT IN THE PARK is vintage Neil Simon.Written in 1963, it is a classic from the golden age of American humor. It comically pits free spiritednewly wed Corie Bratter against her “ stuffed shirt “husband Paul .What makes it so delicious is Neil Simon’s warm insightfulexamination of young love and impulsive lovers. I am tempted to offer that old cliché “they don’t write comedies like this anymore.”I wish they did.It has been a real pleasure to work with everyone involved in this production and a rare chance to rehearse intensely with a small ensemble of actors , which is my favorite thing to do.I hope this blast from the past tickles you as much as it has us.ENJOY!!
